网络情人节:从虚拟到现实的爱情潮

May 20th is widely known as Chinese Internet Valentine’s Day. In Chinese, the numbers“520” sound just like “I love you.” Because of this, people have turned the date into a warm celebration of love. The following day, May 21st, has also become part of the festival.

This special day was born in the digital age. It is said that the festival started with the song Digital Romance by Mavis Fan. In the song, “520” is used to mean “I love you.” Later, musician Wu Yulong released an online hit song that connected the phrase “I love you” with “online love.” Gradually, Internet users also began to use “521” to mean both “I love you” and “I do.”

Today, it has become a popular day for expressing feelings. Young people love this romantic occasion. They send flowers and gifts, or share sweet messages with their loved ones. Many young couples even choose to get married on this day and post their happy news online as a meaningful ritual. Online shops and retailers (零售商) have also helped make the festival more popular. It is now a common romantic tradition among young people in modern China.
