People around the world held many activities to celebrate David Attenborough’s 100th birthday on May 8. Celebrations included butterfly releasing, wasp (黄蜂) naming, music performances and a brand-new documentary.

David Attenborough is a well-known environmentalist and TV presenter. For many years, he has shown amazing natural scenery to audiences worldwide. He gained great popularity thanks to the BBC nature documentary Life on Earth. The show first came out in Britain in 1979 and reached America three years later.

The BBC held a grand celebration in London on his birthday. Many famous people and environmental lovers took part in the party, where musicians put on wonderful shows. A new documentary looking back at Life on Earth was also released at the same time.

A butterfly farm in England held a special activity too. Attenborough once shot a documentary there in 1983, which greatly helped the farm develop. Workers set free 100 rare blue butterflies to express their wishes. Besides, a new kind of wasp from Chile was named after him as a specialhonor.

Attenborough’s lifelong effort to record nature has won wide respect all over the world. His vivid documentaries let countless people appreciate natural beauty and care more about wildlife. He has always treasured every precious filming memory, and his spirit will always inspire people to protect our planet.
