Amy Pye lives in Nanaimo. Many people think she is a hero for saving a man’s life. However, she says the real hero is a brave 12-year-old boy.
At 3 a.m. on a Saturday morning, Amy was fast asleep. Suddenly, her doorbell rang. She checked her door camera and saw a scared boy outside. He asked for help, saying his father needed help badly. Before coming to Amy’s house, he had knocked on three other doors, but no one answered.
Amy followed the boy to his home at once. She found his father lying face down in the bathroom. He was unresponsive (无反应的). With her Navy reserve (海军预备役) experience, Amy called 911 right away. She also did CPR (心肺复苏) to save the man.
She kept doing CPR for 10 to 15 minutes until doctors arrived. A doctor said most people can only do CPR for two minutes. It was really hard but great work for Amy.
