生命力顽强!新生儿住院一年多终于回家啦

Four hundred and sixty days: That’s a year and a little over three months. That’s how long little Kendall Jurnakins spent in the hospital. Doctors said that Kendall only had a 50/50 chance of survival(存活). No one was sure he would survive at all—but he’s finally home!
Kendall was born on December 11, 2020. He was in the NICU(新生儿重症监护室) at birth. His mom, Sparkle Jurnakins, has some health problems. Kendall was so tiny that Sparkle was afraid her son couldn’t survive.
At first, Sparkle visited her son every day. However, after eight months, her health became worse. She had COVID-19. While the baby was still in the NICU on a ventilator(呼吸机), his mother was also on a ventilator, fighting for her life because of COVID.
“COVID almost took me out,” she said. “From August to October, I was in a coma(昏迷). And then in the hospital till almost December.” At long last, Sparkle saw Kendall again in December 2021. She was happy when her baby seemed to recognize(认出) her right away.
When Kendall was finally strong and healthy enough to leave the hospital, the doctors and nurses in the hospital gave him a very special send-off. When Sparkle and her husband came to pick up Kendall, hospital workers lined the hallway and cheered. Sparkle says it “was the best day of her life.”
Both mother and son fought with death and won! They both have a second shot at life, and they’re not going to waste a second.
