Jos Bots, over 90, is from New South Wales, Australia. He is about to break the record to become the world’s oldest solo paraglider(单人滑翔伞运动员). But he surely knows that it’s not easy for him to realize it. He has already cheated death several times doing the extreme sport.
Mr Bots celebrated his 93rd birthday on September 14, 2022. But age is just a number for him. Mr Bots said the paragliding experience still makes him excited despite doing it for over 50 years. “It’s such a wonderful thing to do, flying like a bird,” he said. “You can fly in a plane but it’s different to be sitting in a plane. Freeflying like a bird really excites me. It’s marvellous.”
The current(当前的) Guinness World Record holder for the oldest solo paraglider is held by Polish man Janusz Orlowski. He flew at the height of 332 meters at the age of 91 in 2017. But Mr Bots believes the time has come for him to break Orlowski’s record. “I’ve got to reach 300 meters in height, which can be done at a lot of places but it’s difficult to do at Stanwell Park,” Mr Bots said. “We did a test once and I missed the height by 10 meters, actually.”
Although there are a lot of risks, Mr Bots is hungrier than ever to break the record. He says he is waiting for the perfect chance to fly. “The Guinness Book of Records goes all over the world. It would be very nice and something to think about,” he said.
