关于国宝大熊猫,你了解多少?

Pandas are black and white bears. In the wild, they are found in thick forests, high up in the mountains of central China. It’s also     ▲     to meet the animals in some zoos.

These cute animals sometimes eat small animals and fish, but bamboo counts for 99 percent of their diet. They are big eaters—every day adult pandas eat for up to 12 hours! More than 10 kilograms of bamboo is needed for that.

Pandas grow to between 1.2m and 1.5m, and weigh between 75kg and 135kg. Scientists aren’t sure how long pandas live in the wild, but in captivity(圈养) they live to be around 30 years old. Baby pandas are born pink and about 15cm long—that’s about the size of a pencil! They almost can not see anything at birth and only open their eyes six to eight weeks after birth. Every panda mother gives birth to one or two cubs every two years. Cubs stay with their mothers for 18 months before living on their own!

Unlike most other bears, pandas do not spend the winter in a state of deep sleep. When winter comes, they head lower down their mountain homes to warmer temperatures, where they continue to eat bamboo!

Sadly, these cute bears are endangered. We need to do all we can to protect them!
