无家可归群体为逝世警官家属捐款 善良行为感动社区反获大量捐赠

Police Officer Seara Burton died on Sept. 18. She was shot while helping other officers with a traffic stop. She was 28 years old and joined the police department four years ago.

At the funeral(葬礼) of Seara, her co-worker Donnie Benedict said someone walked into the police station and handed over a white envelope(信封). Inside it was eight one-dollar bills. They were from the homeless community in Richmond.

“This gift was in a dirty well-used envelope. They handed the envelope to the information officer and on the envelope was written these four words: people from the street. The person explained that several of the homeless people from the city of Richmond have taken up a donation(捐赠) from the people that live on our streets here in Richland and that they wanted to donate this to Seara’s family. There have been many good gifts given in honor of Seara. However, and I mean none, are better than the gift of 8 $1 bills in a dirty white envelope,” Benedict said.

The story touched Amber Conley, who made a call out on Facebook asking for donations. The community is now trying its best to help the homeless population. They have collected enough donations to fill a room in the Richmond Fire Station — everything from coats, water, tents and more. “Everyone feels so sad about Seara’s death. People showing kindness to someone in need in honor of her is the best thing they could do now,” Conley said.
