At around 1:45 a.m., Heidi heard a terrible sound and woke up. She found their 4-month-old cat, Thor, was shouting and seemed very sick. She picked him up, and brought him outside for some fresh air. After the cat seemed much better outside, she opened a window in the house and went back to bed.
“Half an hour later, the cat started shouting again,” Heidi said. “It woke me up again, but this time, I had sweat through all my clothes. I wasn’t able to move. I felt really sick.” When Heidi didn’t respond(回应), Thor went to the kids. Finally, 13-year-old Paige and 11-year-old Quinn realized something was wrong. Heidi woke up on the floor with her family trying to revive her. They made their way outside, and then Heidi’s husband Ronald passed out. The kids called 911, and all four of them were taken to hospitals for carbon monoxide poisoning(一氧化碳中毒).
Thor played an important role in saving the family of four. The police hope the family’s story will tell others about the importance of having carbon monoxide detectors(检测仪) on each floor of the home. Heidi’s family did not have them, but you can be sure they bought one the second they got out of the hospital!
