一个淹没在海底的“庞贝古城”:拜亚

Baia is a Roman town. It is more than 2,000 years old.

Long long ago, it was a popular place for rich(富裕的) people. Hundreds of years ago, the town moved towards the sea. A volcano in the Mediterranean Sea moved it. Then, the whole town was under water. Divers found it again in 1969.

Now, it is still under water. Fish swim through the town. About 15,000 divers(潜水者) and visitors visit it every year. Visitors swim through the town too.

They see beautiful statues(雕像) in the town. These statues are not real. Because the animals and plants in the sea can hurt the real statues. People take them out. They put copies(复制品) of the statues back in the sea.
