Madeline is a first grader. When she asked her parents if she could keep a unicorn(独角兽) in her backyard, they must have mentioned needing a special license from animal control to legally own such a unique and magical creature. Madeline knew just what she needed to do!
The little girl wrote a letter to the Animal Control Department. “Dear Sir/Madam,” she wrote. “I would like your approval if I can have a unicorn in my backyard if I can find one. Please send me a letter in response.” On Facebook, animal control staff members shared the adorable letter and said it “brought us so much JOY.”
Director Marcia Mayeda not only decided to approve Madeline’s request for a unicorn license, but she also sent her a return letter thanking the child for her “sense of responsible pet ownership” and her act “of seeking permission in advance.” Naturally, there were some guidelines and conditions for owning a unicorn, assuming Madeline finds one some day. Marcia’s letter said that the unicorn must be “given regular access to sunlight, moonlight, and rainbows(彩虹),” for instance. Madeline must also promise to feed the unicorn watermelon at least once a week, and polish the unicorn’s horn(角) with a soft cloth.
The animal control department hopes that sharing Madeline’s letter and their response will encourage responsible pet ownership in their community. “It is always rewarding to hear from young people who thoughtfully consider the requirements of providing a loving home for animals,” the animal control department wrote on Facebook. “We commend Madeline’s sense of responsible pet ownership to seek permission in advance to keep a unicorn at home. As a result, we issued her a unicorn license. Also, in the meantime, because they are indeed very rare to find, we will be providing her with a unicorn toy as she continues her search.”
Madeline’s responsible request was handled perfectly by this agency, and everybody comes out a winner.
