野兔先生和乌龟先生的故事
One day, Mr. Hare was laughing at Mr. Tortoise. Because Mr. Tortoise was too slow.
“Do you ever get anywhere?” Mr. Hare asked him with laughing. “Yes,” answered Mr. Tortoise, “and I can get there sooner than you think. I’ll run you a race and prove(证明) it.”
Mr. Hare was laughing at the idea of running a race with Mr. Tortoise, but for the fun of the thing he said yes. Mr. Fox acted as judge(裁判员).
Mr. Hare was soon far out of sight(视野). To laugh at Mr. Tortoise, Mr. Hare slept on the tree. While Mr. Hare was sleeping, Mr. Tortoise kept going slowly.
After a time, Mr. Tortoise passed the tree where Mr. Hare was sleeping. But Mr. Hare slept on, and when he at last woke up, Mr. Tortoise was near the goal. Mr. Hare ran very fast, but he could not keep up with Mr. Tortoise.
