在地下洞穴独处500 天 女探险家结束了与世隔绝的生活

Beatriz Flamini is a climber. She entered a cave (洞穴) in southern Spain on November 21, 2021, to spend 500 days alone there. The cave is about 70 meters underground. Flamini was monitored (监控) from far away by a group of scientists — to explore the effects of being alone on the human body and mind.

Flamini was 48 years old when she went down, and 50 when she completed the challenge on April 14, 2023. Flamini described the experience as “excellent, unbeatable”. She even told reporters that she had never thought of stopping halfway. “In fact, I didn’t want to come out,” Flamini said.

Flamini’s months in the cave were spent in silence. A team of scientists from the universities of Almería, Granada and Murcia kept in touch with her using “special” messaging technology. They provided food for her. Flamini spent her days reading, drawing, exercising, knitting hats and recording herself with two GoPro cameras. A technical problem forced Flamini to pause the challenge around Day 300. She spent eight days in a tent, without making contact with anyone, before returning to the cave. Flamini says she spoke only when recording videos.

Flamini’s experience is part of a project called “Timecave”. It wants to study “how someone would fare (进展) going solo underground for so long.” Psychologists, researchers, physical trainers and cave experts with Timecave studied Flamini’s recordings to watch and check her health. Flamini said she would continue to let doctors study the physical and mental (心理上的) effect of her time in the cave — before planning her next caving projects.
