A homeless man set himself on fire on a street when hundreds of people were singing and dancing in a pub along the street, police said.

Police Chief Kenneth Ferrante said that they got a call about 11 p.m. Saturday that a man was trying to set himself on fire. When they hurried there, they found the man with his jacket on fire and shouted for him to get to the ground so they could put out the fire, but he refused.

As the fire spread, the man started crying and officers were able to push him to the ground to put out the fire, police said. 

The man was not seriously injured, Ferrante said. Police did not release any details on why the man did that.
