Many people worked together and saved several manatees after they went into a drain in Florida. Because the animals were so heavy, people had to use earth-movers.

The manatees could die if the drain is full of water- but thankfully people got them free in time.

Manatees are curious animals and sometimes go into drains near sea because the drains are usually warmer than outside. They can not get out if the drains are not big enough. One of the firemen said: "It's cold these days so the manatees go into drains often. They will go wherever there's warm water."

Police and local people also took part in saving the manatees.
