Egypt gave the country’s highest award to a woman for her motherhood. The woman lived as a man in order to support her daughter for a long time. 

Sisa Abu Daooh dressed as a man for 42 years in order to find work after her husband died.“If I didn’t, no one would let me work.” 

In the early 1970s, it was very difficult for women to find work. For seven years, she made less than a dollar in very hard work a day. She now works as a shoe-shiner.  

When Daooh’s husband died, no women went to work in Egypt. Even today, very few Egyptian women do the hard jobs, those are often man’s work.
