Tesla has made new progress in its humanoid robot, Optimus, and recently released a video that has attracted wide attention. The video, titled “Just a new PR in the lab,” highlights the robot’s latest abilities. Optimus is about 180 cm tall and weighs roughly 73 kg. Its hands are very skillful, with 11 points of movement, allowing it to perform detailed tasks. The robot is powered by a battery that can last for nearly a full workday. It uses very little energy, about as much as a few light bulbs, whether it is standing still or walking.

Earlier versions of Optimus could only walk slowly or handle objects in simple ways. In comparison, the new video shows much smoother and more stable movement, making its walk look closer to a human’s.
Elon Musk, the CEO of Tesla, has stated that Optimus is not just for show. The company has a clear goal: to use about 5,000 Optimus robots in its own factories by the end of 2025. By mid-2025, the robot was shown performing more complex jobs, such as walking longer distances on its own, lifting objects, and helping with basic factory assembly work. Although a version from September 2025 still seemed somewhat slow, a newer model in October could perform controlled martial-arts-style movements, showing much better full-body control.
Tesla says Optimus is still being developed but is almost ready for large-scale production. Once mass production begins, Mr. Musk estimates the robot could cost between $20,000 and $30,000. This would make it less expensive than many other industrial robots. In the long term, Musk imagines a future where robots might even help build other robots. The main idea is for them to take over repetitive or dangerous tasks in factories.
The development of Optimus is happening at an important time for the car industry. Electric cars and humanoid robots share key technologies like batteries and AI systems. Modern car factories already use many robots for jobs like welding and painting. Humanoid robots like Optimus could be the next step. They are designed to use tools, move around spaces built for humans, and do jobs that traditional robots cannot.
