On August 3 (local time), at the 46th Scientific Assembly of the Committee on Space Research (COSPAR) held in Florence, Italy, researcher Wang Jinsong from the China Meteorological Administration was awarded the William Nordberg Medal.
The William Nordberg Medal recognizes outstanding contributions to the practical use of space science. First given in 1988, it had never before gone to a scientist from China. Along with the medal, Wang also received the rare honor of having an asteroid named after him.
Experts say the award reflects growing international respect for China's achievements in space science and its real-world applications.
